Speedway will play Linton-Stockton in the Richmond Semi-State on Saturday, and sophomore Anthony Jones is a big reason why. Although Notre Dame football recruit Justin Brent leads Speedway in scoring, the improvement of Jones has spurred the deep playoff run for the Sparkplugs.

Jones is averaging 19 points and 8 rebounds per game this season while Speedway has gone 21-4. He has seen a dramatic improvement in his shooting from last year. For the season, Jones has shot 55% from 2 and 39% from 3. “I feel like my mid-range jump shot has increased majorly. I have a lot more elevation in my shot than last year,” said Jones.
Some of his improvement can be related to the muscle he has added. “I have gotten stronger and am finishing through contact,” said Jones. Like most young players, he is seeing the benefit of improved strength. Jones only shot 44% from 2-point range last season on his way to averaging 9.5 points per game.
Jones has no scholarship offers, but he is in frequent contact with Evansville, Indiana State, Ball State, IUPUI and Illinois State.
The athletic, long guard will be a player to track this spring and summer for mid-majors. {/iACL}
