The outcome during the Regional was a surprise to many people. “We didn’t come out to play. Franklin Central did a really good job. They came out with a lot of energy,” said Speidel. Franklin Central jumped out to a 15-0 lead in the first quarter on Columbus North. North cut it to six points early in the second half, but Franklin Central kept their poise and weathered the run.
Speidel currently has one offer; University of Evansville. He has heard from Indiana, Purdue and Indiana State, but “The most interest is by Michigan and Evansville by far,” Speidel said. He went to games at Michigan and Evansville this season.
Speidel excels in the mid-range right now. He has tremendous footwork for a young “big.” Speidel uses a series of shot fakes and pivots to create space. “My dad has always loved that and has always practiced that with me,” said Speidel. He is not an elite athlete. “I’m looking to improve my quickness and my explosiveness as well. Then keep improving on ball-handling and shooting,” Speidel said about improvement he wanted to make.
Speidel will compete with Indiana Elite-Team Indiana this club season. He played with them in Las Vegas to end last summer. “I look forward to playing with the really good guards,” commented Speidel. Those guards include Hyron Edwards, Chandler White and Grant Weatherford. Everett and Stanley Duncan are also on the team.
Looking forward to the spring and summer, Speidel will need to prove that he can rebound and defend the elite athletes of the power forward position. He is currently 6-7 and expects to grow another inch or two. He is not afraid to be physical, but he only has average lift off the floor right now. Speidel is definitely, at the very least, a mid-major prospect. {/iACL}
