When you are 6-11, and can defend inside and outside plus rebound at a high level, it is only a matter of time until the high-major programs start to pursue you. That is exactly what has happened with Johnathon Wilkins. He recently picked up three high-major offers.

Wilkins now sports offers from Marquette, Villanova and Miami (FL) along with Bradley, Dayton and Illinois State according to La Lumiere coach Alan Huss. In January his only offer was from Bradley. Now Coach Huss says that even Duke has called about Wilkins. "He’ll be a top player to get before the summer is out. He’s our best player," said Huss.
Wilkins is a true 6-11. He excels on the defensive end where he has terrific timing for blocking shots. He also moves very well laterally when guarding on the perimeter. "We switch ball screens with him all the time especially late clock. He can hedge, he can get out and hedge at half court," said Huss.
His offensive game is improving as well. He shows a nice touch around the basket. Wilkins also has a decent looking stroke from the free-throw line. That bodes well for his development of a jumper down the road.
Coach Huss has high praise for his junior big man. "I mean, he absolutely destroyed Beejay Anya (#49 by Rivals) this week. Every ranked guy we play against, he outplays," said Huss. Huss closed out his comments on Wilkins with his boldest statement, "He is better than any of the bigs we had last year (Jay Simpson of Purdue, Hanner Perea of Indiana). He’ll be a lot better player than any of the guys we had last year when it is all said and done."
Wilkins will be with the loaded Spiece Indy Heat team once again this spring. That team includes Trey Lyles, JaQuan Lyle, James Blackmon Jr., Trevon Bluiett and PJ Thompson. {/iACL}
