Hamilton Heights senior Alex Etherington has verbally committed to Indiana State. Etherington was once verbally committed to Kansas State, but had a change of heart and opened his recruitment back up. On Wednesday, he announced he would play for Greg Lansing and the Sycamores.
Early in the season Etherington believed that he would attend prep school in order to attract Big Ten attention. As the season developed his odds of attending went lower and lower. Many high-major programs visited Etherington this season including Georgia, Clemson and Missouri. He had an official visit set-up to New Mexico before head coach Steve Alford left for UCLA.
Etherington’s decision came down to Indiana State or prep school despite heavy late interest from Saint Louis and Missouri. He decided that Indiana State was a good fit for him and chose the rising Sycamore program.
The athletic Etherington averaged 18 points and 6 rebounds a game for Hamilton Heights this season. The key for Etherington’s long-term potential will be his shooting. He only shot 29% from beyond the arc this season. His game will go to a different level if his shot becomes more consistent. Etherington was our highest rated prospect left in the state.
