Fishers High School basketball coach Joe Leonard announced that Sean Lonergan will have a preferred walk-on spot at the University of Michigan, while Jon Fleming will be the same at Kent State. Both players are high-academic students.
Lonergan is an inside/outside threat. He shoots it well from the outside, and has the quickness to beat bigger opponents off the dribble. He also has some bounce off the floor. Lonergan has good footwork and moves in the post as well. It is always tough for walk-ons to get playing time especially at the Big Ten level, but his length could earn Lonergan some playing time down the road.
Lonergan joins Zionsville's Andrew Dakich as walk-ons at Michigan in the 2013 class. Mr. Basketball Zak Irvin from Hamilton Southeastern is also heading to Michigan. The Wolverines now have six Indiana natives on their current roster; Mitch McGary (Chesterton), Glenn Robinson III (Lake Central), Spike Albrecht (Crown Point).
Fleming is a tough, little point guard. He is a pass first player. He averaged about 5 assists per game this high school season. He is your classic walk-on at the D1 level. Fleming will never take a practice off, and will not be afraid to compete against the stars on the team.
