Lake Central's Tyler Wideman has verbally committed to Butler University. Wideman is a post player from Northwest Indiana. He also had scholarship offers from Bradley, Indiana State, Kent State, and Central Michigan.
Wideman plays his club basketball with Meanstreets. He averaged 4.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game during 22 games on the Nike EYBL circuit. The circuit features teams with multiple high-major players on each roster. His offensive rebounding was a strong point throughout the season. He nearly averaged two offensive rebounds per game.
Wideman is a 6-6 or 6-7 power forward. He has always been an imposing figure as he was nearly the same size when he entered high school. He has improved his build over the last year. Wideman has dropped some baby fat and added muscle. He will need to be extremely physical to make up for his lack of height in the Big East. The transformation has helped his athleticism. He's still not a great leaper, but he gets off the floor much better now.
