D.J. McCall (2014) of Fort Wayne Concordia has verbally committed to IUPUI. The 6-5 wing was a Junior Indiana All-Star this season after leading Concordia to a 3A runner-up finish.
McCall said the decision came down to IUPUI and UMass-Lowell. “I just didn't feel comfortable with the distance (of Umass-Lowell),” said McCall. He said in the spring that he wanted to get out of Fort Wayne, but yet not go too far from home for college. That ended up being a factor in his decision.
McCall is a long, athletic wing. He has some of the best open court dunks in the state. Anyone that saw the 3A state championship game against Greensburg knows what I am talking about. He does most of his damage in transition and on the offensive glass.
His overall skill level is on the rise. His outside shooting is his biggest drawback right now. If his consistency from the outside improves, his game will really go to another level. McCall handled the ball a lot in July and did a very good job distributing the ball.
McCall should be a good building block for coach Todd Howard and the IUPUI program.
