Leading the list of shooting guards is Marion's James Blackmon Jr. He recently de-commited from Indiana University. He is arguably the best shooter in the state and one of the top shooters nationally. Blackmon has also improved his ball-handling skills although there is still some work to be done in that area for the high-major level. He will visit Kentucky this weekend. Blackmon has a scholarship offer from Kentucky among many other schools. His father played for Kentucky. He is also taking unofficial visits to Louisville and Michigan this weekend.
Second on the index is Greensburg's Bryant McIntosh. He de-committed from Indiana State in July and saw his recruitment blow up immediately afterward. He now has offers from Purdue, Northwestern, Iowa, Marquette, Xavier, Clemson, and many more. McIntosh could be considered a combo guard. He will certainly be able to handle the ball at the next level.
Indianapolis Arsenal Tech's Jeremie Tyler is next on the list. Tyler is extremely athletic and explosive. He is a very good outside shooter. He is slightly undersized at only 6-1. Tyler makes up for it with his athleticism. He has the lateral quickness to guard point guards at the next level. He could possibly become a point guard down the road, but it is not his strong suit right now.
Over the last 12 months, no one has improved more in the 2014 class in Indiana than Mt. Vernon's CJ Coleman. He has grown a little bit and the extra length has really improved his game. He has also improved his ball-handling. Coleman's mid-range game is one of the best in the state. He is a good shooter beyond the arc, but not elite at this point. He has offers from Ball State and Indiana State among others.
Wright State pledge Grant Evans is next in line. Evans is a shooter that has really bulked up this spring and summer. He did not play much AAU except during the evaluation period since he was already committed. He has been pretty one-dimensional in the past as just a shooter. We will see if his training has helped expand his game. Evans should always have a role at the next level with his shooting ability.
Sixth on the list is Lawrence North's Daeshon Francis. Francis is a great player in the open court. He has highlight dunks regularly. He plays hard on both ends of the floor. His shooting and ball-handling both need work especially his outside shooting. Francis has work to do in order to qualify.
Lipscomb commit Aaron Korn is next in our shooting guard rankings. He is an athletic wing that gets to the basket frequently. He has a solid outside stroke, but it has been streaky in the past. Korn has a solid overall game.
Fort Wayne Concordia's D.J. McCall is eighth. He is verbally committed to IUPUI. He has good length and is explosive off the floor. He can be a major force on the offensive glass at times. McCall's ball-handling has improved this summer. If his handles and shooting continue to improve, he will make a case to be much higher on the list.
Ninth on the list is a very talented Perry Fairrow from Evansville Bosse. He shows flashes of being a mid-major type of prospect. His effort and focus is very inconsistent. If he taps into his potential, he would be much higher on the list.
South Bend Washington's Tra'Veon Johnson is our tenth shooting guard. He is an athletic and physical guard. He will do damage in the post against smaller defenders. Johnson doesn't shoot it consistently from the outside. His ball-handling also needs some improvement. He is a tough player and is a competitor though.
Next is Bloomington North's Saikou Jallow. He is a smooth combo guard. He's slightly more of a shooting guard than point guard. He gets passive on the offensive end frequently. Jallow is a good athlete.
One player that has really improved is Brownsburg's Trevor Lucas. He was always a good athlete that got after it on the defensive end. His offensive game has really improved. Lucas is a very good shooter from the outside. He is quick enough to get to the basket. He is another combo guard candidate. If he continues to improve over the next few months, he has a chance to be a low-major prospect.
NorthWood's Jonathan Wilkinson is next on the list. Wilkinson is best when he is getting to the rim off straight-line drives. He has good quickness with his first step. He handles it pretty well in the half court. Then he has the athleticism to finish at the basket. His outside shooting is streaky. He has offers from Grace, Bethel, and Hillsdale.
Our 14th shooting guard is Chesterton's Cole Teal. Teal is a shooter with a quick release. He will get more of a scoring burden this season at Chesterton since Matt Holba transferred to Guerin Catholic. He is a solid athlete that has the lateral quickness to defend well.
Justin Brent of Speedway is our next shooting guard. He will not play basketball this season. He is enrolling early at Notre Dame for football. He is a superb athlete.
Next up is Bishop Noll's Larry Crisler. Crisler has always played as an undersized post player his first couple of years at Bishop Noll. He still gets most of his production around the basket, but his shot looks good and he handled the ball pretty well against New Haven. He is very strong and plays with a lot of energy. Crisler does not have much burst to his game especially off the dribble. He gets by guys at this level because of his strength more than his quickness.
Columbus North's Evan Henry handles the ball a lot during the high school year, but I see him more as a shooting guard than point. He has offers from St. Francis and Indiana Wesleyan. He was recently at the University of Indianapolis for their camp. He is a very good shooter, decent quickness.
Brebeuf's Adam Kroot is a shooter that really came on towards the end of summer. He shined in the USSFA tournament at Carmel during June then continued to play well in July. He has good size and will also rebound. He has an offer from Hillsdale.
NorthWood's Zach Zurcher is up next in the order. He could be classified as a small forward as well. He's definitely a wing though. He is extremely strong. Zurcher is a solid shooter, not an explosive athlete. He doesn't handle the ball especially well.
Fort Wayne Snider's Trevon Covington is an under-the-radar guy. He is talented and athletic. He should be a good D2 or NAIA player.
Bloomington North's Matt Truesdel is a very good shooter. He is a tough, hard-nosed player. He is a decent athlete. He isn't real explosive off the dribble and struggles at times on the defensive end.
Our 22nd shooting guard is Devin Chaudion. He has shown potential in the past, but he is very inconsistent. He has forced a lot of drives and shots with poor results in the past. Fishers graduated most of their line-up from last year except Chaudion.
Next on the list is Carter Van Wanzeele. Van Wanzeele transferred from Avon to Mooresville this summer. He is a very good outside shooter. He can also hit shots off of one or two dribbles. He doesn't get to the basket consistently. Has a role player, shooter, he could be useful at the D2 level.
Bowman Academy's Arthur Haggard is a scorer. He is not always efficient, but he scored the ball for Bowman most consistently last season.
Jare Glover of Gary West Side is a thin, lanky shooter. I have not seen him do much off the dribble. He is a good outside shooter, but not an elite shooter.
Avon's Conner Funkhouser is a scorer like Haggard from Bowman. Funkhouser is a left-handed slasher. His outside shooting is inconsistent and he will force shots while defended well.
Center Grove's Tyler Bryant is a very good shooter. He can handle the ball but is not a playmaker with the dribble. He is best as a catch and shoot shooter. He should be a nice small college player.
Franklin Central's Lucas Huffman could easily be higher on the list. He is a shooter with very good size at 6-5. Huffman is a tough kid. I have not seen him put the ball on the floor too often against good defenders.
Grant Leach of Hamilton Southeastern is our next shooting guard. He has good size and a good frame. Leach is also a solid outside shooter.
Fort Wayne Northrop's Jacoby Claypool is a good athlete. His production has not been very high in the times that I have seen him.
Ryan Wobbe of South Bend St. Joe's is an explosive athlete. He is strong and can get to the basket off straight-line drives. His overall skill set isn't very high right now. {/iACL}
