Cathedral wing Matt Gregory has the potential to be one of the top sleepers in the state. As a senior, this is the first year that Gregory has had a large role with his high school team. We recently caught up with Gregory to discuss the expansion of his game and his current recruitment.

Gregory has always been on the tall side with the ability to shoot from the outside. Over the last year, Gregory has added muscle to his frame. That has allowed him to be more than just a spot-up shooter like he was for last year's state runner-up Cathedral team. “I'm not just a shooter now. I still shoot it well and I primarily like to shoot it, but I can get by [defenders] a little bit and finish in the lane now,” said Gregory.
The senior is 6-foot-7 now with a frame that will allow him to increase his muscle mass relatively easy even after putting 20 pounds over the last year and a half. His shooting ability is still his strongest attribute, but his game has definitely expanded. He has a quick, consistent, and accurate release from the outside. As he continues to get more comfortable putting the ball on the floor, his game will improve.
Gregory is a fantastic student as well. There were rumors that it was Ivy League or bust for him in terms of playing basketball in college, but Gregory says that he is open to other opportunities. "If I get an opportunity at an Ivy League school, it's going to be hard to pass up. That's what I really want, but I will go pretty much anywhere [any level of play],” said Gregory. He currently has scholarship offers from D2 programs University of Indianapolis and Rollins College (Fla.) along with D3 interest from Washington University in St. Louis and Case Western Reserve University. Gregory has heard from Ivy League schools Harvard, Princeton, and Cornell.
Gregory plays almost entirely on the perimeter at this point. As he gets stronger, he should have the ability to play inside and outside. He could be a fantastic stretch 4 option at the D1 level if he is able to add another 20 pounds of muscle. That is what makes him a sleeper at this point. Gregory should have a very good senior season as he is already off to a strong start. The future is bring for Matt Gregory.
