NKU Gets Shooting Guard

Northern Kentucky has recruited Indiana heavily in the last few years. But on Sunday the Norse locked in an in-state shooter in Hagen Tyler. Here is a look at Tyler and how it might impact Northern Kentucky's recruiting in Indiana.

Hagen Tyler is a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Boyle County High School in Danville, Kentucky. He's known as an outstanding shooter, but he sees himself as more than just a shooter. “I am a shooter but I can also get to the rim and stuff, I work on it (getting to the rim) a lot. In the summer, I've gotten my mid-range down too, my pull-up jumper,” said Hagen Tyler.

The rising senior said that the campus and the people in the program made him pick Northern Kentucky. “It's really beautiful up there, and I'm really comfortable with all the coaches and players,” said Tyler.

The decision came down to NKU and Samford although he had previous offers from Morehead State and Alabama State as well. Tyler visited Samford before committing to Northern Kentucky.

Hagen Tyler sees himself making an impact early in his career. “I would say that I won't start right away because they have some older guys. They were a young team last year, so they will have juniors and seniors when I'm a freshman. I think I can come in and play right away and play a good role,” said Tyler.

Northern Kentucky looked hard in Indiana for a shooting guard with the shooting ability like Hagen Tyler. The Norse were the first to offer Carmel guard Ryan Cline – now committed to Purdue. NKU was a finalist for the services of Center Grove's Michael Benkert before he chose Belmont. They also offered Evansville Reitz guard Jaelan Sanford – now committed to Toledo.

Northern Kentucky's recruiting attention in Indiana will be on forwards for the 2015 class. They have scholarship offers out to Adam Eberhard (Evansville Memorial), Brennan Gillis (Ben Davis) and Ryan Welage of Greensburg. It looks like NKU would still take another player in the 2015 class.
