Caleb Swanigan announced that he will be moving to the 2015 class on Monday. The rumors were circulating about this possibility leading up to his announcement. The 2016 center will now become one of the top 2015 prospects. Here is more on Swanigan and the move.
Caleb Swanigan has been playing up age divisions in the Nike EYBL for the last two seasons. He has dominated some of the top post players in the country. The move to the 2015 class will not change his elite recruit status. Most services have him in the 25 to 50 range nationally for the 2016 class. His game is evolving with his weight loss. Swanigan has chnaged his body over the last year and it has increased his athleticism.
Swanigan released a new scholarship offer list after the April evaluation period which listed teams like Louisville, UCLA, Marquette, Iowa and Florida State to name a few. Michigan State has been recruiting Swanigan the hardest for the longest time of any college program. Indiana has also offered the Fort Wayne post player and has been persuing him heavily. Pittsburgh is a school that has also been recruiting Swanigan for a long time.
Swanigan goes to high school at Homestead in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He did transfer back to Utah for a week last fall before returning to Fort Wayne. He used to be a big-time football prospect as you would expect of a 6-foot-9 and 260 pound high school student. Swanigan gave up football in the fall of 2013 in order to concentrate on basketball.
On the travel circuit, Swanigan plays with Spiece Indy Heat. He has been with the program for a few years now. He has completely dominated post players across the country. He attacks rebounds with two, strong hands. Swanigan's footwork in the post is fantastic. He does a great job of using his body and sealing defenders. That is something that young post players usually do not do a very good job of that.
The move from 2016 to 2015 will not change much for Swanigan on the recruiting circuit. There might be some minor changes, but most of the programs will want him for the 2015 class just like they did for the 2016. One rumor for the reclassification is to get to college as soon as possible just in case the NBA imposes a two year in college requirement. That is only a rumor at this point.
