2016 forward Anthony Murphy was a major reason why Indiana Elite 2016 captured the 16 and under title at the adidas Gauntlet last weekend. Murphy has raised his game this spring.
Anthony Murphy entered the spring with the reputation as an athlete that thrived in transition and on the offensive glass. He has shown an improved skill set on perimeter thus far during the travel season. “I've been focused on improving my shot this spring,” said Anthony Murphy. It showed this weekend as Murphy shot the ball really well from the outside throughout the tournament.
Murphy is 6-foot-4 pushing 6-foot-5 right now. He has tall parents, so he might grow a little bit more. That would help his college potential greatly. He has a broad shoulders that give him extra length as well. Anthony was an athletic power forward last year at this time, but he has transitioned into a true small forward now. His ball-handling has improved in a similar way to his outside shooting.
Anthony Murphy is currently receiving recruiting interest from New Mexico, Indiana, Xavier, Butler, Illinois-Chicago, Valparaiso and Michigan State. He has no scholarship offers right now. If Murphy continues to improve his perimeter skills, his recruitment will intensify. His athleticism, frame and energy are all major positives for Murphy. He is good for one blocked shot a game that wows the crowd.
He will be one to watch in the July evaluation period to see if his game takes another step during the month of June. Murphy's game is definitely on the rise right now.
