2015 forward Paul Forman has flown under the radar thanks to being homeschooled for this first three years of high school. He has made colleges pay attention during the travel circuit. Forman has a handful of Division I schools recruiting him now.
Paul Forman is a 6-foot-7, 215 pound forward from Churubusco, Indiana. According to his father, Forman will attend Churubusco High School this year. “We considered sending Paul to Bishop Luers, but have elected to have him play for Churubusco High School his senior year,” said Mark Forman.
Forman is comfortable playing inside and on the perimeter alike. With the level of play he will face at Churubusco, he should be able to do whatever he wants on the block. He has a solid back to the basket game with a soft touch in the paint. Forman scores well with either hand.
The rising senior is also a good outside shooter. He is a threat from the three-point line that opponents have to respect. Forman can be a stretch 4 at the next level because of his shooting ability. He has more of a post game than most stretch 4s; he's not only going to play on the perimeter.
Paul Forman is a decent athlete, but he will struggle to defend one on one on the perimeter at the D1 level against wings. He should be able to guard low level D1 power forwards on the outside and in the post. At 215 pounds, he is not weak and he will be able to add muscle easily at the next level to help defend post players.
The Northern Indiana prospect is a player that will finish above the rim at times, but he is not a high-flying athlete. He jumps well enough and is physical enough to be a good rebounder. Forman should adequate on the boards at the next level.
As mentioned earlier, Paul Forman is attracting college attention for his basketball ability. His travel coach Jay Kroft says that he hears from Western Illinois, Indiana State and Evansville frequently. Some other Division I schools that have shown interest are IPFW, Toledo, Wright State, Cornell and Colgate. Forman does not have any Division I scholarship offers at this time though.
Paul Forman is a possible D1 sleeper that is rarely seen in Indiana. Since he was homeschooled, he has not received the attention that most prospects of his ability usually do. Churubusco will not play against many college prospects this season. The Eagles will face Columbia City in early December. Columbia City has 2016 forward Brachen Hazen and his younger brother Parker Hazen. That will likely be the best “evaluation match-up” on the Churubusco schedule this season.
Churubusco played Lowell in the Caston Invitational last season. If that match-up develops again this season, that would be a decent game for college coaches looking for a evaluation of Forman to attend. Lowell has 6'6” junior Hayden Monix – who is likely a small college prospect.
The Churubusco schedule is not confirmed yet, but those are likely the best two options to see Forman against solid prospects with size. Westview made the 2A (second smallest class of four) state championship game last year. They are in Churubusco's conference. Chandler Aspy is a solid 6-3, 6-4 power forward for Westview but will be giving up a few inches.
To be highly successful at the Division I level, Paul Forman will need to find the right school and basketball system. There are certainly many D1 programs that he can help. If Forman goes to a “small college” program, he should be an immediate impact performer for most teams. Paul Forman is a prospect worth checking out for low level Division I programs and high-level D2, D3 and NAIA schools.
