It was a busy weekend for underclassmen in Indiana. Butler offered Kris Wilkes and Jaren Jackson on Saturday while Indiana extended an offer to Kevin Easley. Here is more on the offers.
Butler assistant coach Terry Johnson was at the North Central-Park Tudor game last week. Both are no-brainers for the high-major level now. Wilkes' skill and production is further ahead of Jackson but Jackson has as much upside as anyone in the state's 2017 class. Wilkes is a special player. At six-foot-six, he is a fantastic athlete and his perimeter skill set is developing well. Jackson is growing rapidly. He is over the 6'8" mark and likely has a couple more inches left to grow. Physically, he is behind many of the other top recruits in the 2017 class. Jackson's coordination is improving and he is becoming more athletic as well.
Butler, under Brad Stevens and Brandon Miller, had a rule of not offering prospects scholarships until June 15th as the player entered his junior year. It appears that Chris Holtmann will not be following that procedure with offers to Wilkes and Jackson. There are few schools that follow that guideline anymore. Michigan is one program that does.
Kevin Easley attended Indiana's game against Michigan on Sunday. The Hoosiers defeated Michigan by three points. After the game, Tom Crean offered the Lawrence North freshman. Easley also has scholarship offers from Purdue and IUPUI on the table. He has started all season for Lawrence North.
