Two Indianapolis high school players were drafted in the first round of the NBA Draft on Thursday night. Trey Lyles was selected with the 12th pick by the Utah Jazz. R.J. Hunter went 28th by the Boston Celtics. Here is a little bit more on both players.
Trey Lyles was the wire to wire Indiana Basketball Source number one prospect in the 2014 class. Here is a detailed scouting report by Indiana Basketball Source from his junior season at Indianapolis Tech. Lyles led Tech to the 4A state championship during his senior year.
R.J. Hunter had a much different high school career although he was a four-year contributor for the powerhouse Pike High School. His game grew significantly each year of high school. The biggest jump came in the spring of his sophomore year. He went from a spot-up shooter during his sophomore year at Pike to a complete player that looked to slash to the basket and create for his teammates more during the travel season.
It is always fun to watch a player rise through the ranks of basketball from the start of high school to reaching the NBA. It is an amazing journey. Congratulations and best of luck to Trey Lyles and R.J. Hunter.
