2016 Don Bosco Prep shooter Chris Palombizio verbally committed to Oakland University on Saturday. Palombizio took official visits to Northern Illinois, Oakland, Southern Illinois and St. Bonaventure before selecting Oakland. Here is more on Palombizio's decision.
The path to a college decision has not been the easiest for Chris Palombizio. He was committed to Western Michigan at one point before opening his recruitment back up. That experience changed his mindset during the process.
“The recruiting process has not been so good to me just because I've been through a lot and those coaches (Oakland University) stuck with me,” said Chris Palombizio about why he selected Oakland.
Oakland started to get involved with Palombizio after his strong showing at a July tournament.
“They were watching one of their commitments play and they saw me,” Palombizio said. “Immediately they started recruiting me. I had a Michigan State commit guarding me and I scored quite a bit on him.”
Palombizio has a strong trust in the coaches at Oakland.
“I really think they will be able to help me reach my goal of playing at the next level and get me better,” said Palombizio. “I really think I will be able to fit in their program.”
Palombizio stated throughout the recruiting process that he wanted to play right away and that is something that he expects to do at Oakland.
“I'll be a shooter,” said Palombizio. “I'll be a three (small forward), play the wing and be running off of screens and what not. I have to earn every minute when I get down there so I have to keep working and go from there.”
A shooter is certainly something that Palombizio has proven to be in his prep career. During his senior year at Chesterton, he shot 42% from three point range on more than 200 attempts. He has had similar results early in the season for Don Bosco Prep.
Palombizio received numerous offers this fall. American, Ball State, Northern Illinois, Oakland, Southern Illinois and St. Bonaventure all offered Palombizio a scholarship this fall.
Palombizio joins Detroit point guard Brailen Neely in Oakland's 2016 class.
