Terre Haute (Ind.) South guard Jaylen Minnett verbally committed to Jason Gardner and the IUPUI Jaguars on Monday evening. Minnett picked IUPUI over scholarship offers from Indiana State and New Orleans. Here is more on Minnett and his commitment.
Jaylen Minnett watched IUPUI defeat North Dakota State on Sunday. He committed on Monday. Those two things are not a coincidence. It moved IUPUI to 7-2 in conference and proved the progress that they are making under head coach Jason Gardner.
"They made Jaylen their top priority in 2017," said Minnett's travel coach Brian Keeton. Minnett plays with Eric Gordon's travel program, EG10.
That paid major dividends as IUPUI beat out hometown Indiana State for his services. Minnett's recruitment likely would have increased dramatically this spring and summer on the travel circuit.
"I have a great relationship with the staff," said Jaylen Minnett. "My mom and dad like the school and coach Gardner as well.
Minnett is one of the top scorers in the state's 2017 class. That is evident with his 30 points in the first half against Edgewood a month ago. Alongside his scoring, Minnett has improved his passing and playmaking skills over the last year. He should be an immediate impact player for IUPUI.
