Jac-Cen-Del's Evan Borgman (2016) verbally committed to IUPUI on Wednesday night. He will start his career for the Jaguars. Borgman could develop into a regular contributor for IUPUI. Here is a closer look at Evan Borgman.
Borgman is a legitimate 6-foot-8 forward from Jac-Cen-Del (Osgood, Indiana). Jac-Cen-Del is one of the top teams in class A this season with Borgman being the major reason for that ranking. He is averaging nearly 19 points per game and also eight rebounds per contest for Jac-Cen-Del.
Borgman's coach at Jac-Cen-Del, Travis Stangland, has high praise for his senior forward.
"He's an even better kid than he is basketball player which makes coaching him that much better," said Travis Stangland.
IUPUI likes skilled post players that can play in the pick and roll, pick and pop game. Borgman has a chance to develop into that role. He is shooting 37% from the three-point line this season. Borgman is also shooting 71% from the free throw line on 110 attempts. His mechanics are there to become an even better shooter. That will be one of the ways that he could work his way into the rotation for IUPUI.
"They have a 6'8" player like me that will be a senior next year and plan on me filling his spot once he graduates," said Evan Borgman.
Borgman also indicated that he liked the location of IUPUI as Indianapolis isn't too far from his hometown. Another factor in Borgman's decision was the chance to get a Purdue engineering degree. IUPUI offers the ability to get a degree from either Indiana or Purdue.
Borgman turned a lot of heads with his size, defensive play and shooting last spring for Pat Mullin's Eric Gordon Central Stars team. He drew interest from programs like Northern Kentucky and IPFW along with a number of others.
IUPUI head coach Jason Gardner watched Borgman play in late January. It progressed from that evaluation to a commitment in less than a month. Borgman could end being a steal for IUPUI if he adds strength to his frame while keeping/improving his outside shooting.
