North Central's Kris Wilkes has been invited to the U18 USA Basketball Team training camp. He will be joined in Colorado Springs by three La Lumiere players - James Banks, Brian Bowen, Jeremiah Tilmon. The try-out will take place June 14-18. Here's more on the training camp roster. Kris Wilkes has a composite national ranking of 17 per 247 Sports. Wilkes has had an excellent spring with the Indy Hoosiers. He has reinforced his stature as a top 25 player in the country with his play. He put on a show at the recent Elevate Hoops event. Wilkes was hitting mid-range to outside shots over defenders. He was flying for dunks in transition. He displayed the ability to get to the basket and score in traffic in the half court. Wilkes showed his entire repertoire.
Wilkes is the only Indiana native invited to the USA Basketball Team training camp, but there are many Indiana connections. James Banks, who will be coached by his college coach Shaka Smart, Brian Bowen and Jeremiah Tilmon were all a part of the La Lumiere School team in LaPorte, Indiana this year. Banks is a member of the 2016 class, and will report to the University of Texas in the next couple of weeks. Bowen and Tilmon are 2017 prospects like Wilkes. Bowen has posted big-time numbers for Meanstreets on the Nike EYBL circuit this spring. Tilmon has been on the sidelines with a shoulder injury.
The training camp roster will be cut from 26 to 12 for the FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Chile held in late July. As mentioned above, the head coach of the team is Shaka Smart. Connecticut's Kevin Ollie and Maryland's Mark Turgeon are the assistants. It should be noted that Maryland is one of the programs recruiting Wilkes the hardest right now. This could benefit the Terps with Turgeon on the staff.
Jaren Jackson Jr. and Romeo Langford made the training camp for the U17 National Team.
