Pike's Justin Thomas committed to Northern Illinois University after a visit Tuesday. He took an official visit to Florida Southern in May before committing to Northern Illinois. Here's more on the commitment and Justin Thomas.
Justin Thomas had a really good career at Pike. He averaged 15.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.6 asssits per game as a senior. He won 50 games in his final three seasons at Pike including two sectional titles. For his career, Thomas finished with 960 points.
His recruitment developed slowly. Western Illinois offered Thomas after his sophomore year. The soon took a commitment from a different 2016 point guard (CJ Duff), and they backed off their recruitment of Thomas. Drake - of the Missouri Valley Conference, not the rapper - offered Thomas in the fall of 2015. They ended up taking a point guard during the season.
Thomas played the spring with Indiana Elite 2017. He was with Indiana Elite 2016 last year. He posted solid numbers in the areas that he is known for...steals, assists, scoring at the basket. He had an offensive rating of 118.56 with a usage rate of 24.28% on the adidas Gauntlet this spring.
Florida Southern was his strongest suitor for much of the spring. The Division II power was able to get Thomas down to Florida for an official visit. D1s programs were expressing interest in Thomas throughout the spring, though.
Thomas visited Northern Illinois on Tuesday. The MAC school extened an offer to Thomas on the visit. It didn't take long for Thomas to accept the offer.
He joins Gary 21st Century guard Eugene German in Northern Illinois' 2016 recruiting class.
