Crispus Attucks has major expectations this season. Junior guard Jamal Harris is one reason why Attucks has high hopes for this year. College coaches have been making frequent stops at Attucks to see Jamal Harris. He updated Indiana Basketball Source on his goals and recruitment.
Attucks went 19-6 last year before losing in the sectional championship to Brebeuf, 77-63. Brebeuf has another strong squad, but Jamal Harris and Attucks have major goals this season.
“We’re looking to win state,” said Jamal Harris.
Winning a state title is always a difficult thing. Attucks has an athletic and talented team in 3A. The lofty goal isn’t out of the question for the Indianapolis Public School.
What will it take for Attucks to win the state title like the Oscar Robertson teams?
“All of us playing together and buying in,” said Harris.
Harris has been putting in work. His ball-handling has shown significant improvement over the last few months. He is becoming more comfortable in traffic. It looks like he has developed a floater in the lane as well.
The 2018 prospect has offers from Ball State, Indiana State, Kent State, New Orleans, Toledo and Western Illinois. A long list of coaches has already been in this fall to watch Harris.
“Toledo, Western Illinois, Bradley, IUPUI, Loyola, Ohio University, IPFW, Evansville, Illinois State and Indiana State have been in,” said Harris.
Of those schools, Harris said that Toledo and Western Illinois are recruiting him the hardest. Ohio University is just starting the recruiting process with Harris. He is setting up a visit to Ohio but there is no date for that visit established yet.
Jamal Harris is going to be a key for Crispus Attucks this season. IUPUI commitment Nike Sibande will put up big numbers. Teyon Scanlan is going to hit shots and stretch the defense. In order for Attucks to live up to its potential, Jamal Harris will need to be productive and consistent. Harris looks poised to meet that challenge.
