It's a busy week in the basketball world. Practices for IHSAA schools started today and the NCAA early signing period begins on Wednesday. Here's a closer look at both.
Schools were finally able to start practice today. The first day that the IHSAA allows regular season games is two weeks from Monday. It doesn't give teams much time to put in offenses and defenses. The start date for practices has been pushed back in recent years while the beginning of the regular season has stayed the same. Most coaches have not enjoyed the condensed timetable.
A long list of 2017 prospects will be making their commitments official this week. There are currently 12 players committed to D1 schools in Indiana's 2017 class. All of those players are expected to sign in the early period which stretches from this Wednesday to next Wednesday. The regular signing period for basketball is April 12-May17.
Indiana Basketball Source is rolling out season previews of all of the top teams. A running list of team previews is kept on the front page below the recent commitments. A statewide top 25 will be unveiled next week.
