Kevin Easley Commits To VCU

Lawrence North’s Kevin Easley (2018) committed to VCU on Wednesday evening. The junior took an official visit to the A-10 school over the weekend before verbally committing. Here’s more on the commitment from Easley.

Kevin Easley’s recruitment has been in overdrive since he began high school. Lawrence North is a tradition-rich school, and Easley was pegged to be the next superstar in a long line of college and NBA players from the Indianapolis program. He picked up a number of scholarship offers as a freshman.

Easley decided to take an official visit earlier than most players. That likely occurred because his recruitment has been in progress for so long. The NCAA allows juniors to take official visits after January 1 of the prospect’s junior year. Easley visited VCU this past weekend after a planned visit was canceled due to weather a couple weeks ago.

The official visit was enough to secure the verbal commitment from Kevin Easley. He will not be able to sign his letter of intent for nine and half months.

The biggest improvement to Easley’s game over the last year has been his rebounding. Easley has an offensive rebounding rate of 14.6% in the four games that Indiana Basketball Source has recorded stats for Easley and Lawrence North this season. That is an excellent rate. He has been strong on the defensive glass as well.

The Rams play in the Atlantic-10. The conference features teams like Dayton, UMass, Richmond, Davidson, St. Bonaventure and LaSalle. Since he has increased his rebounding, Easley will have a chance to play as a stretch four or small-ball four at VCU. He’ll need to do work in the weight room in order to fill that role. Easley will also need to improve his shooting mechanics to produce at a high rate at that level.

This could be a good commitment for both sides. VCU is a really good program that plays in a tough league. As long as Kevin Easley continues to work and improve, he will be able to help VCU continue its winning ways.
