Penn head coach Al Rhodes is no stranger to success in northern Indiana. This winter, he looks to ride the backs of a trio of talented guards as Penn tries to make waves in class 4A.
Valparaiso returns four of its top five scorers from a season ago. The Vikings will have a mix of young players and experience this year. Drew Paul and Conner TenHove will be the main scoring threats for Matt Thomas in his second season at the helm.
Concord could be one of the surprise teams in northern Indiana this year. The Minutemen lose leading scorer Ramon Johnson and Adam Glanders from last year’s team, but return three of their top 4 scorers, including one of the best players in north central Indiana in Filip Serwatka.
Michigan City Marquette captured the 1A state title last season. Head coach Donovan Garletts returns many key players including championship game hero Ryan Fazekas. A repeat trip to Indianapolis in March is a real possibility.
South Bend Clay struggled to a 5-17 record last year, but Coach Joe Huppenthal has a large senior class and his top four scorers returning in hopes of having a breakout season this year. (Photo credit: South Bend Tribune)
