Crown Point’s Sasha Stefanovic committed to Purdue University on Friday morning.
Stefanvoic was being courted by Purdue throughout the fall and winter. The Boilermakers watched him in open gym a few times in the fall. Purdue’s Matt Painter made a couple of trips to watch Stefanovic in the recent weeks as well. Painter watched Stefanovic play on Thursday night. The Boilermakers extended an offer after the game.
Stefanovic announced a top five in the fall. It did not include any high-major schools but he remained open to power conference teams. He held off on taking official visits in the fall because he knew he was going to wait to make a decision. Pittsburgh, Purdue and Ole Miss, among others, were talking to him in the fall.
It was assumed that if Purdue offered Stefanovic that he would accept it. The Boilers were interested but worried about having Dakota Mathias, Ryan Cline and Stefanovic on the roster at the same time. That would be three guys that overlap a lot in strengths and weaknesses. Stefanovic, obviously, played those worries out of the mind of Matt Painter.
The recruitment of Stefanovic started to blow up after his play against D1 Minnesota on the Adidas Gauntlet circuit. He received an offer from Xavier after that performance. He received a boat load of other offers after that. Before committing to Purdue, Stefanovic was still considering Northern Iowa, Evansville, Loyola and Valparaiso.
Stefanovic was a Junior Indiana All-Star. He will likely make the Indiana All-Star team this season. He has helped Crown Point be a top 20 team in the state this year. The Bulldogs have won back to back sectionals behind the play of Stefanovic.
