Kokomo’s Anthony Barnard is an interesting prospect in the 2018 class. Here’s a dive into Barnard’s game and future.
Anthony Barnard is leading Kokomo in scoring (13.3) and rebounding (5.8) this season. Kokomo is 12-6 this season with Barnard producing the way he is. The Wildkats have a tough road to their 75th sectional title. They have McCutcheon, Logansport and Zionsville in their sectional.
For Kokomo to make noise, Barnard will need to play at a high level. The junior sees his role for Kokomo as a combination of intangibles and skill.
“I need to be the leader on the team – take over or get us into plays and get a basket when we need to,” Anthony Barnard told Indiana Basketball Source.
Barnard is only scratching the surface of his potential. At 6-foot-6, he has the ability to play off the dribble, hit outside shots and rebound. There are not a ton of high school players with that versatility. That will turn the heads of many college coaches this spring and summer.
Speaking of the travel season, Barnard will be with Brian Keeton’s G3 GRIND team. That team will play on the Under Armour circuit. There is no doubt that he will be seen by hundreds of colleges this spring and summer.
NAIA powerhouse Indiana Wesleyan and Division II Maryville University are showing interest in Barnard.
Right now, Barnard is a player that piques college coaches’ interest. In order to turn the interest into offers, Barnard will have to prove that he is a consistent outside shooter. He is shooting 40% from the three-point line this season. It is over a small sample size plus he is only taking wide open shots. Those shots don’t translate well to the next level because space closes faster.
“I’m looking forward to getting in the gym and working on everything I need to work on – my shot, my handles,” Barnard said of the spring and summer.
Heading into the spring, Anthony Barnard is going to be one of the main players that Indiana Basketball Source tracks. If his game takes a step forward then Barnard will become a Division I recruit. That’s why Barnard is a player to follow in 2018.
