We had a chance to talk to 2014 point guard P.J. Thompson on Wednesday. Thompson is a 5’9” floor general that plays his high school basketball at Brebeuf Jesuit in Indianapolis and plays AAU basketball with Spiece Indy Heat 16U.
P.J.’s father is LaSalle Thompson. The elder Thompson played at Pike High School before going onto Indiana State then finished his career at Ball State.
Here is what P.J. had to say when he talked to Indiana Basketball Source.
IBS: Do you have any offers right now?
P.J. Thompson: “No, I don’t have any offers yet.”
IBS: Who has shown the most serious interest so far?
P.J. Thompson: “I’ve been looked at by IU, Purdue, Xavier. Butler is starting to get more interest. Illinois, Virginia Tech and most recently Stanford has been showing some interest as well.”
IBS: Will you be going to any camps in June?
P.J. Thompson: “I thought about going to the IU camp but I’m not sure yet.”
IBS: Do you plan on visiting anywhere in June?
P.J. Thompson: “Yeah, I do plan on visiting some colleges. I haven’t set all of them up yet, but I have to set-up a visit with Butler and I will probably go down to IU and Purdue to visit soon. I’m not sure though yet.”
IBS: Has your father (LaSalle Thompson) been walking you through the recruiting process?
P.J. Thompson: “We really don’t talk about it a lot. He has been there for me and all that stuff but we really don’t worry about it. I just go out there and play. I’m just trying to get better. I’m just going into my sophomore year so I’m just playing it out and trying to get better. I’m not really concerned with all the recruiting right now.”
IBS: What are your thoughts on committing early like Trey Lyles or James Blackmon, Jr.?
P.J. Thompson: “It all depends on the situation. Like for James and Trey Lyles, it was a good thing for them but it really depends on the situation. I wouldn’t know who the coach might be at the time or what teammates I would be playing with at that time. If they are really interested in me and I’m really interested in them then I mean I would. But I would probably wait.”
