Ryan Weber, 6’6” SF Roncalli 2012, was having a great spring until he came down with mononucleosis. Mono has sidelined him for some of the biggest tournaments of the spring including the Spiece Run N Slam and adidas May Classic. He is back working out and playing now though.
Indiana Basketball Source talked to the rising senior Wednesday and here is what he had to say…
IBS: What offers do you have right now?
Ryan Weber: “Drake, IPFW and hmmm…Gardner-Webb.”
IBS: Who else have you been talking with recently?
Ryan Weber: “Right now, I’ve been talking to the University of Richmond, Northeastern, Furman, Stetson, Belmont, Indiana State and Eastern Kentucky.”
IBS: Have you had a chance to visit any of those schools?
Ryan Weber:” I took a visit to Eastern Kentucky and then I took a visit to Belmont last weekend. I took a visit to William & Mary awhile back but they aren’t in the picture now though.”
IBS: Are you going to attend any elite camps in June?
Ryan Weber: “I think I’m going to Eastern Kentucky’s on the 24th. I actually have to miss Richmond’s because I’m taking the SAT. I might be going to Belmont’s.”
IBS: Have you started to narrow your college choices at all?
Ryan Weber: “Right now, I’m wide open. If they are interested in me then I am interested in them.”
IBS: What will be the main factors that go into your decision?
Ryan Weber: “Location isn’t really a problem for me. The coaching staff is big. I’m looking for a combination of academics and competitive basketball like a median in-between the two. A place where the competition is hard, they play a hard schedule. Then winning games is always good. A good group of guys and good coaches always helps out.”
IBS: How is the recovery from mono?
Ryan Weber:” It was rough. It was hard on my body. It’s kind of tough getting back but by July I’m sure I will be back in the swing of things.”
IBS: What areas are you trying to improve this summer?
Ryan Weber:” I’m looking to improve on my ball handling and my perimeter defense. I’m looking to play a wing or a 3, 4 preferably a 3 in college. So, I’m going to have to be able to guard on the perimeter. I think getting my handles down and agilities will help me play on the perimeter with all the little, fast guards.”
IBS: We’ve noticed more versatility in your game this spring. Has that been an emphasis for you?
Ryan Weber: “Yeah, I’ve been trying to be a more versatile player because I mean if you can play multiple positions then it opens up more opportunities. One-dimensional players are easy to guard. I’ve been working on coming off the dribble. I actually started off as a post player as a little kid so that has always stuck with me like riding a bike.”
