Matt O’Leary has really boosted his recruiting stock with a great spring. O’Leary is a 6’7” power forward from Terre Haute North that can shoot it really well from the outside. O’Leary is one of the most consistent shooting in the 2012 class plus he happens to be in the 6’7” range.
We spoke with Matt last week and here is what he had to say.
IBS: Do you have any offers?
Matt O’Leary: “I have one from St. Francis, which is an NAIA up in Fort Wayne, and then my coach said that Jacksonville is going to offer tonight but I haven’t gotten a call from them yet.”
IBS: Who else has shown interest in you?
Matt O’Leary: “Ball State, Wright State and Evansville have been real interested. I’ve been on an unofficial visit to Ball State then I’m going to go to Wright State’s elite camp. I’ve been talking to Western Michigan, Lafayette and Lehigh. Lewis University (Division II) is real interested in me.”
IBS: What position do you see yourself playing in college? Face-up power forward or more of a pure small forward?
Matt O’Leary: “I’d say more of a face-up four man. The colleges recruiting me haven’t told me specifically what position they want me to play but I assume they are recruiting me as a face-up 4.”
IBS: What factors will go into your college decision?
Matt O’Leary: “Their system, how they play and if I like their coaches. I probably don’t want to go too far away, but I’m not worried about staying too close either.”
IBS: When would your ideal time be to make a college decision?
Matt O’Leary: “I would like to before the start of my high school season but that can change. I would definitely like to (commit) before the start of my high school season though.”
IBS: Are you trying to improve any areas of your game this spring/summer?
Matt O’Leary: “Yeah, shot fake and put the ball on the floor. Also, I’m trying to be able to drive a lot better and my perimeter defense.”
