Zavier Turner is a 5’9” point guard from Pike High School in Indianapolis. Turner has had a great spring for the Eric Gordon All-Stars. He’s been one of the most consistent players for them despite playing alongside Collin Hartman (Indiana), Basil Smothernan (Purdue), Devin Davis, Jr. (Indiana), and Zak Irvin.
Turner was hospitalized Memorial Day weekend after having seizure like symptoms in his sleep. They believe it was because of dehydration and he is going to be okay with no long-term effects.
This interview was done June 2nd and Turner has picked up two scholarship offers since then.
IBS: Who do you have offers from?
Zavier Turner: “Evansville and Georgia State” (Recently Turner also picked up an offer from Loyola and St. Louis)
IBS: Any colleges that you feel are close to offering?
Zavier Turner:” I would say Loyola, St. Louis, and Indiana State.” (He was right on with Loyola and St. Louis)
IBS: Will you be visiting anywhere in June?
Zavier Turner: “Evansville, I’ll be going to Georgia State and Georgia Tech pretty soon. I’ll be going to West Virginia on the 25th. I’ll be in St. Louis on Saturday (June 4th) and I just got back from Loyola yesterday (June 1st). I’ll be in Michigan on the 11th.”
IBS: What factors will go into your college decision? i.e. distance from Indianapolis?
Zavier Turner: “I’m not really concerned about traveling to go to college. I just want to go somewhere that is a good fit for me. Somewhere that there is potential playing time. I want to go to a school where they are graduating their student-athletes.”
IBS: Will the level of play be a factor (i.e. high-major vs. mid-major)?
Zavier Turner: “It doesn’t matter what the rank of the school is. The only thing that matters is that I’m playing and what I am doing while I’m there. I’m not worried about how big the school is.”
IBS: When is your ideal time to commit?
Zavier Turner: “Probably the end of next summer.”
IBS: What are your June plans with Pike?
Zavier Turner: “I’m playing in three tournaments with Pike. That will be Purdue, Butler, and Ball State. I’m not sure if I will be able to make it to the Ball State one because that is around the time I will be going to West Virginia.”
IBS: Are you currently playing (June 1st)
Zavier Turner: “No, I just got out of the hospital. I went up there (Pike) today but I just watched. I’ll be able to play again on Tuesday (June 7th). “
