Grant Evans is a 6’2” shooting guard from Wapahani High School. Evans scored over 20 points per game as a freshman for Wapahani while leading them to a 17-6 record. The 2014 guard has been attracting attention from colleges early in his high school career.
Evans spoke to us last week about his college interest and his overall game.
IBS: Who do you have offers from so far?
Grant Evans: “Just Wright State so far.”
IBS: What colleges have shown interest?
Grant Evans: “The main ones have been Indiana, Purdue and Butler. Ball State has been in the gym. I’ve been in contact with Ohio State, Cincinnati, Virginia Tech, Evansville, Belmont, Missouri State, IPFW and that’s about it.”
IBS: Will you be attending any elite camps?
Grant Evans: “This Sunday (June 5th) I will be at Indiana then at the end of the month Wright State is having one and I will be at that. I will also be going to Middle Tennessee State’s camp. They have been contacting my coach a lot recently.”
IBS: Will you visit anywhere else?
Grant Evans: “Yeah, on the 12th , I will be heading to Butler and then two days later I will be heading to Purdue. Then I plan on getting down to Wright State.”
IBS: What are your thoughts on committing early?
Grant Evans: If I knew the time was right and the right school and the right fit, I definitely wouldn’t wait and just go ahead and make the decision.
IBS: Can you describe your strengths for our readers?
Grant Evans: “Right now my strengths are being a leader on the floor and off the floor. Shooting the ball, my mid-range has gotten a lot better with my pull-up and everything. I need to work on getting to the hole a little bit more and my defense.”
IBS: What other areas are you trying to improve?
Grant Evans: “Just getting to the hole and my ball handling everything that goes along with that.”
IBS: Do you see yourself as more of a point guard or a shooting guard?
Grant Evans: “More of a shooting guard.”
IBS: Do you know if you are still growing?
Grant Evans: “Well, my dad is about 6’3” or 6’4”, so I’m hoping to get to about 6’4” or 6’5”.”
IBS: Are you looking forward to your sophomore year?
Grant Evans: “Yeah we started four freshmen last year. We made it to the sectional championship game and lost by one to a team that had 3 or 4 seniors that contributed. We are looking forward to it. It should be a pretty successful year. Hoping to build off of what we did this year, 17-6 record and hopefully win a couple of championships.”
