Warren Central's Mack Smith committed to Eastern Illinois on Tuesday afternoon.
Smith had an incredible senior year for Warren Central. He averaged 20 points and six rebounds per game for a team that was ranked as the number one team in the state a couple of times this year. Smith shot 50% from three-point range on 84 attempts this season. That efficiency took him from a decent player to a dominant one. His elevated shooting took Warren Central from an average team to a really good team as well.
Indiana Basketball Source watched Smith in five games this season. He was spectacular in each one. Here are his stats and shot chart against Cathedral, Hamilton Southeastern, North Central, Crown Point and Muncie Central.
Those shooting numbers are insane. He didn't only shoot an incredible rate from beyond the arc, Smith was 20-21 from the free throw line as well in the games that Indiana Basketball Source observed this year.
Although Smith's shooting was unreal during the 2016-2017 season, he didn't get a ton going to the basket. He will need to find spots to get easy points at the next level to be successful. His shooting will need to remain at a high level as well. 84 attempts might seem like a lot, but it is a really small sample size to judge shooting ability. If he can be a long-term 37%+ shooter, Smith will be an impactful player at Eastern Illinois.
Eastern Illinois is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference. Schools like Belmont, Austin Peay, Murray State and Morehead State are also in the conference. It is definitely a league that Smith can thrive in.
