It feels like a college commitment deadline is approaching with all of the decisions this weekend. Isaiah Coleman-Lands has committed to Miami (Ohio), while Garrett Covington is headed to Youngstown State. There were a few more small college decisions as well.
Isaiah Coleman-Lands is an Indianapolis native. He has spent his entire four-year career at La Lumiere, though. He is the younger brother of current Illinois player Jalen Coleman-Lands. Isaiah is more of a point guard. He's steady with the ball, and will hit an outside shot if the defense leaves him open. Coleman-Lands will have a chance at early playing time as Miami's point guard from last year, Michael Weathers, transferred out of the program. Coleman-Lands joins Logansport's Jalen Adaway in the 2017 recruiting class for Jack Owens.
Garrett Covington spent this season at Don Bosco Prep in Northwest Indiana. He finished his high school career at Carmel after spending his first three and half years of high school in Georgia. Like Miami, Youngstown State has a new coach in Jerrod Calhoun. Covington has potential as a defender with his size. He can also develop into a really good shooter.
The small college commitments are happening at a rapid pace.
After Mateo Rivera committed to Southern Indiana, Emmanuel Little followed him. The two have been teammates at North Central. Little had a great start to the high school season. His play pushed North Central to the number one ranking in the state. He is a forward that can play inside or outside. If Little's motor is consistent, he will be a big-time player for the D2 program.
Homestead's Parker Manges committed to Wabash College. He was mostly a spot-up shooter and rebounder for Homestead this year. Those things will translate well to the D3 level immediately. He's a big guard that will be able to play a few positions for Wabash. The Little Giants have added plenty of shooting with the 2017 class. Jack Davidson, Connor Rotterman and Max Flinchum can all hit shots at a high rate.
Keegan Fetters led Lakewood Park to a Sectional title this year. He will be at Anderson University next season. He's best as a slasher and distributor. Fetters should be able to fit into the rotation at Anderson early in his career.
