Guerin Catholic's Jack Hansen committed to IUPUI Saturday.
Hansen is a 6-foot-5 forward with the ability to stretch the floor. He shot 38% from three-point range as a junior at Guerin Catholic. Hansen averaged 19 points and nine rebounds in 2016-2017. He'll be expected to carry a larger role as a senior. A big senior year could land Hansen on the Indiana All-Star team.
He fielded interest from many high-academic schools like the service academies - Air Force, Army, Navy - plus Valpo, Indiana State and Wright State. IUPUI was the only school that extended an offer to Hansen at the time of his IUPUI commitment. He was comfortable with the coaching staff since thry have been recruiting him for over a year.
Hansen is the first commitment for IUPUI in 2018. IUPUI picked up a transfer from Manhattan on Friday. Ahmed Ismail will sit out this coming year then have a season of eligibility left. Jaguars are now in the Horizon League with the likes of Oakland and Wright State. IUPUI has improved in each of Jason Gardner's seasons. They are expecting to take another step with the move to the Horizon.
