Chris Mack wasted no time after accepting the Louisville head coaching job to hit the recruiting circuit. Before he was officially announced, Mack offered a large number of crossover recruits with his last stop, Xavier. That included a couple of Indiana prospects.
Louisville is in a tough spot after the FBI allegations against Rick Pitino and Louisville leveled its 2018 recruiting class. A class that could have included Romeo Langford. Chris Mack is making up for lost time as he extended offers to a dozen players in the 2019 class. The method of extending many offers right when taking a job is usually reserved for low-major and mid-major programs. With Louisville’s situation, it is easy to see why Chris Mack opted for this route.
Among the first day offers, Armaan Franklin and Keion Brooks were extended scholarships from Mack and Louisville. Xavier was Franklin’s first high-major offer before many other programs joined the mix. Brooks, heavily recruited by Michigan State, Indiana and others, received an early offer from Xavier. Purdue was the first program to offer Brooks. Mack and Xavier weren’t too far behind.
It will be intriguing to see what type of recruiting profile Mack establishes at Louisville. He’ll have all the resources to recruit coast to coast, but his strongest ties are with Midwest and East Coast coaches. The prospects that Louisville offered Tuesday were from those two areas.
