Trevor Andershock and Ben Czarny collaborate to detail the Saturday standouts at the Nike EYBL.
N’Faly Dante might be the most impressive long-term prospect that I’ve seen this weekend. Dante is a 2020 prospect for MoKan Elite. He’s a 6-foot-10 post player with a wingspan well over the seven-foot mark. He’s more than a big body, Dante can really run and is extremely coordinated for his size and age. He rebounds at an extremely high level by high-pointing the ball and going after it with two hands. He has some face-up and rip through moves from the extended post as well. He has a feel for the game that most players of his size lack. He has a chance to be really special.
Kofi Cockburn 23 points and seven rebounds against James Wiseman and Malcolm Dandridge. Cockburn set the tone that he was going to battle and go right at those guys. Bluff City had no way to containing him in the paint. There are few, if any, high school players that can compete with Cockburn’s raw strength and aggression. He backed up his Bluff City performance with 28 points and 15 rebounds against Seattle Rotary. It’s entertaining to watch him compete.
Keion Brooks and Tryace Jackson-Davis were absolutely incredible for Indy Heat against Mac Irvin Fire. The duo got better as the game went along and helped Indy Heat dig out of a double-digit deficit to beat the Fire. Brooks was a force on the backend of the zone as he blocked a handful of shots in the second half. Jackson-Davis dominated around the glass with his quick leaping ability. The Center Grove post had to have six or seven dunks in the game on his way to 22 points. Keion Brooks tallied 28 points in the win including 9-11 from the free throw line.
In the end, it was Jalen Windham that hit the game-winning shot against Mac Irvin Fire. Windham broke loose for a few open outside shots and he made the most of them. In the final seconds, Windham shot faked then drilled a one-dribble pull-up to give Indy Heat the victory.
Kamari Lands (2022) knocked down a few three-pointers in the second half as Indy Heat 16U came from behind to beat the New York Rens. Lands is an extremely talented eighth grader that held his own at Lawrence North’s open gym last fall. He isn’t intimidated by any level of competition as showcased in this one. He embraced being physical against bigger opponents in the post then handled the ball frequently and connects on three-pointers. It was an all-around great showing for Lands.
In the morning session game, Andrew Timme (6-9 Drive Nation) dominated NT Florida Elite. He was able to get to the basket at will as he scored 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished four assists. In the second game, he had okay game against Oakland Soldiers with 10 points He's a stretch four who finds a way to use his size and athleticism. Timme is very good around the basket through his great feel for the game. He currently holds offers from Georgia Tech, Alabama, Boston College, Virginia, USC, Gonzaga, Purdue, TCU, SMU, Creighton, Tulsa, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Utah State, Illinois, Baylor, and Kansas State.
Francis Okoro (6-8 Bradley Beal Elite) from Illinois had huge game against BABC in the 1st morning game with 13 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks. In the second game, he struggled verse Team Takeover and only finished with six points and two rebounds. He's still a very good 5-man that finishes around the basket through his strength and has good moves down low. A little undersized for his position but makes up for it with his strength and athleticism. He currently holds offers from Georgetown, NC State, Oakland, Texas Southern, Western Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Alabama, Illinois, Purdue, Saint Louis, DePaul, Missouri, Northwestern, Oregon, Indiana, and Kansas. Purdue is a favorite to land Okoro right now.
Isaiah Stewart man-child of a power forward has the tools to be great player with his athleticism and strength. Against the NY Lightning, Stewart was catching passes inside and finishing around the rim. In the last game of the night, Isaiah Stewart finished with 27 points on 11-15 shooting with nine rebounds. The ceiling is high for him going forward. There is good reason why he is high-major prospect with his skill set. He currently hold offers from Duke, Maryland, Georgetown, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Villanova. He will have pretty much his choice of any schools he wants to attend.
Malik Hall a wing player who has been blowing up during these first couple AAU sessions. In his first game against LV Prospects, he had some great finishes around the basket and made some good plays off the bounce. In his second game, he had 16 points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks. He fits that point wing position he can create off the bounce and finish at the rim. He will need to improve his outside game as he gets to the higher levels.. Hall holds offers from Kansas, Purdue, Butler, Cincinnati, Florida State, Villanova, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio State, and Michigan.
