The Under Armour Association wrapped up its Indianapolis event Sunday. On the final day of spring evaluation period, many Indiana natives performed at a high level. (Pictured on left: Precious Achiuwa)
Lucas Kroft scored 21 points on 5-9 three-point shooting in a 62-61 loss against Grassroots Sizzle. He went 15-34 (44%) from beyond the arc in the four games over the weekend. That helped him land an offer from Indiana State on Saturday.
Hayden Smithey also shot well Sunday for 1Nation. The Bishop Dwenger wing tallied 14 points on 4-9 three-point shooting in the one-point loss to Grassroots Sizzle. He was 7-20 from deep over the four games.
Precious Achiuwa had a handful of highlight plays against Team Felton including the game-winning three-pointer over a defender. He also had a ridiculous dunk over seemingly the entire Team Felton defense. Speaking of defense, Achiuwa was all over the place on that end. He finished with six blocks in the game to go along with 15 points and five rebounds.
Joey Baker, Duke commitment, was excellent in the second half after being nonexistent in the first half. He finished with 23 points on 9-19 shooting. Many of those shots were from the mid-range off the dribble. His length allowed him to get his shot off against athletic defenders.
Lester Quinones provided most of the scoring for New Heights as he recorded 26 points despite going 2-9 from three-point range. He was able to get to the line a ton and went 10-12. He also grabbed nine rebounds in the win. Quinones is a versatile player with his size (6-5) and skill set. He’ll be able to do a lot of things well at the high-major level.
Zach Kuhn had a slow shooting start against Philly Pride but caught rhythm in the second half as G3 GRIND made a charge. He ended 5-10 from three-point range including one without a shoe. He lost it on the defensive end then hit a trailing three-pointer at the top of the key without it. Kuhn went 16-25 from three-point range over the four games. A lot of players struggled to go 16-25 from the free throw line let alone from three-point range. 16 of 25!
Speaking of hot shooting, Dillon Duff exploded for a 22-point first half against KC Run GMC. He was 9-11 from the field with most of the shots coming from the 16-18 foot range. Each shot was hitting nothing but the bottom of the net. He didn’t need any help from the soft Best Choice Fieldhouse rims. Duff is a 6-foot-5 forward that, obviously, thrives as a mid-range shooter.
Mike Saunders provided G3 GRIND scoring in a tough battle against a tough Canada Elite team Sunday morning. The guard scored 15 points and recorded seven rebounds the 45-38 win over Canada Elite. Points were hard to come by against the size of Canada Elite, but Saunders found spaces and gaps to get his 15 points.
On the other side, Luka Sakota scored nearly half of Canada Elite’s points against G3 GRIND. He had 18 points in a loss to G3 GRIND. He’s a 6-foot-4 shooter that moves well without the ball and can create a bit off the dribble. G3 GRIND made it tough on Sakota, but he was able to go 7-16 from the field in the loss.
