Justin Roberts announced his intent to transfer from DePaul University Friday on Twitter. Roberts spent his first three years of high school at Pike before finishing at Findlay Prep in Las Vegas.
Roberts averaged 4.3 points and 2.1 assists as a freshman at DePaul. Throughout high school, it looked like his defense was going to translate better than his offense. That was the case in his rookie college season. He had a negative number in offensive win shares and offensive box plus-minus while being positive on the defensive side of those stats. If his offensive numbers catch up to his defensive, Roberts will be a very good college player.
One way he can improve his offense is by making progress with his shot, especially in the year that he will have to sit out. Roberts has always had a smooth release on his jumper, but his results have never been consistent. He shot 30% from three-point range at DePaul including 5-20 in Big East play. The rest of his game will be easier if he is a bigger threat from three.
Indiana Basketball Source will be tracking his transfer recruitment.
