Center Grove's Trayce Jackson-Davis made the 12-player U18 USA basketball team Tuesday. Keion Brooks was one of the six players that were eliminated during the second cut.
Trayce Jackson-Davis will represent the USA in Canada for the FIBA U18 Americas Championship starting Sunday. Jackson-Davis had a great junior year for Center Grove, and he has backed it up with a fantastic spring for the Indy Heat. Now his game will have another chance to progress as the USA tries to win the Americas Championship.
Jackson-Davis is joined on the squad by Cole Anthony, Armando Bacot, Ayo Dosunmu, Quentin Grimes, Kamaka Hepa, Matthew Hurt, Josiah James, Tyrese Maxey, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Rocket Watts, and Coby White. Dosunmu will be at Illinois this year, Quentin Grimes is attending Kansas and Coby White will be at North Carolina in a couple months. The rest of the roster are high school players.
The games will be on YouTube for fans to watch live.
Keion Brooks and Musa Jallow (Bloomington North & Ohio State) were at the trials. Brooks made the first cut before missing out on a final roster spot. Brooks is a teammate of Jackson-Davis on the Indy Heat. Brooks has put up monster scoring and rebounding numbers this spring. I thought he had a good chance of making the team, especially after lasting through the first cut.
Jallow was a member of the 2018 class before enrolling early at Ohio State. He turned 18 in February. Jallow averaged 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in 14 minutes per game for Ohio State as a freshman.
Romeo Langford played on the U19 team last summer, but he was cut from the U17 team in the summer of 2016. It's always interesting how the teams get put together at this level.
