After a long spring, Indiana All-Star and Warren Central guard Dean Tate committed to Purdue-Northwest.
Dean Tate was a driving force behind Warren Central's 32-0 season. Tate is a fierce defender that will pressure the ball full court then body opponents in the lane. His personality and toughness were reflected by the entire Warren Central team. He was also one of the only outside shooting threats for Warren Central. He knocked down a handful of three-pointers against New Albany. Without his scoring, New Albany likely wins the semi-state battle.
Tate was all-MIC in both football and basketball as a junior and senior. I'm surprised that he didn't have more football options since he performed at a high level for a major football program. In the spring, Tusculum College offered him a scholarship for basketball. The school quickly took a couple guards in the 2018 class after offering Tate. He had a number junior college programs express interested, but Tate didn't want to go that route.
Tate joins Kokomo's Anthony Barnard in Purdue-Northwest's 2018 class. He is also joining Brennan Schofield, who began his high school career at Hamilton Southeastern before going to SPIRE Academy and IMG Academy. Ohio point guard Chase Rankin rounds out the PNW recruiting class. Barnard, Schofield, and Rankin were all signed by the late Matt Bush but confirmed with Indiana Basketball Source that they will be attending PNW.
