Spike Albrecht committed to Michigan on Friday. The scholarship was opened up when Trey Burke decided to enter the NBA Draft. Albrecht graduated from Crown Point in 2011 before doing a postgrad year at Northfield Mount Hermon. There was a rumor of him heading to Michigan about a month ago, but he denied the claims likely because they didn't have room for him. Appalachian State was in Crown Point for an in-home visit about 3 weeks ago. Before App State entered the picture, Albrecht was trying to get his test scores high enough to go to Brown, where his brother is currently enrolled.
Michigan and John Beilein have a track record of making smart, skilled players succeed in his system even though they might be undersized or lacking the normal Big Ten athleticism. He is a great passer which will be utilized in the Michigan system. Albrecht is also a very good outside shooter and will fit right into the 3-friendly offense.
Here are our notes on Albrecht from last April...
"Michael Albrecht 6’0 PG Crown Point (SYF Players)- Albrecht said he is pretty much set on going to prep school next year unless he gets a late D1 offer. Albrecht had to be a scorer in high school but he is best as a pure point guard. He sees the floor extremely well and is quick enough to draw help. He didn’t shoot much this weekend but he is a good shooter. Definitely a LM+ prospect."
