Floyd Central and Indiana Elite 2019 wing Cobie Barnes committed to Indiana State Tuesday.
Indiana State recruited Barnes throughout his high school career, and it paid off for the Sycamores. Greg Lansing and his staff beat out Miami of Ohio, Belmont, Lehigh, and Purdue-Fort Wayne for Barnes. Here's how he broke down his final five schools a couple of weeks ago.
Barnes gives Indiana State size on the wing. He has displayed a consistent shooting stroke as a spot-up shooter. He's also capable of getting to the basket in transition and in scramble situations. As a freshman, Barnes will benefit from playing alongside playmaker Jordan Barnes. The two aren't related, but Jordan will be able to get Cobie open looks on a regular basis.
High-major schools like Butler and Michigan showed interest throughout the process but never progressed to offering Barnes.
In his final high school season, Barnes will have to carry the load for Floyd Central. Gone to graduation are Luke Gohmann, Matt Weimer, Brendan Hobson, and Evan Nichols. That's most of the production outside of Barnes from a Floyd Central team that went 24-2. Barnes will receive the entire focus of opposing teams this season. It will be fun to see how he handles the focus and progresses throughout his senior year.
