After a long recruitment, Fort Wayne native and La Lumiere wing Keion Brooks Jr. committed to Kentucky Friday night.
At an announcement event in Fort Wayne, Keion Brooks decided to commit to the University of Kentucky. At different points, it looked like Michigan State and Indiana had the lead for his services. His last trip to a college campus was Kentucky in February, and it appears that sealed the deal for Brooks.
Although Purdue was the first school to offer Brooks, Michigan State recruited him hard early in his career. Tom Izzo was a frequent visitor to his Fort Wayne North Side games as a freshman, sophomore, and junior.
Brooks looked like he was leaning towards MSU until Archie Miller took over at Indiana. IU assistant coach Ed Schilling coached Keion Brooks Sr. at Wright State. That helped the Hoosiers make up plenty of ground on the competition.
Kentucky came into the recruiting picture a bit later, but John Calipari has no problem making a late surge with highly sought-after recruits. Calipari does a great job with the top talent each year.
Although Brooks missed out on the McDonald’s All-American game, he was selected for the Jordan Brand Classic. It is another chance to play in front of NBA scouts while competing against the other best players in the country.
Brooks is a natural scorer that likes to his size to shoot over defenders. He was mostly a mid-range shooter until this year when he added three-point consistency to his game. One of the best things about Brooks is his competitiveness. He never took games off or ducked match-ups with top players. His aggressiveness and competitiveness will do him well at the highest levels.
