Ben Davis shooting guard Jalen Windham has received his release from Georgia State following Ron Hunter’s departure for Tulane.
Windham played a major part in Ben Davis winning the 2017 4A state title and helped the Giants get there this season. He sparked Ben Davis to a couple of huge wins in the tournament. Windham’s first half against Center Grove in the Washington Semi-State gave Ben Davis an early lead and plenty of confidence.
Windham’s best attribute is his shooting ability. He hit tough shots on the move and over defenders all season long. Ben Davis needed him to create shots for himself and playing over Dawand Jones in the post. At the next level, he’ll be best coming off screens. Windham had more shots on the move than most high school players.
There are a couple of things that will help Windham transition to the next level. First, the fact that he did work off screens and dribble-handoffs a lot this season. Second, he played his college role for Indy Heat in the Nike EYBL last travel season. He shot 44% on 90 three-point attempts in that role for Jason Delaney’s Indy Heat team.
Prior to committing to Georgia State, Windham’s recruitment wasn’t as wide as his talent would suggest. He had offers from IUPUI, Toledo, Western Michigan, Miami of Ohio, UAB, and Ohio. It sounds like high-major programs may look at Windham as they try to add a shooter late in the recruiting process.
