Southport alum Joey Brunk announced that he is transferring to Indiana University from Butler University today. (Pictured: High school Joey Brunk)
Brunk had a breakout redshirt sophomore year for Butler this past season. He was efficient around the paint and rebounded well. He was the player that most expected out of high school. Brunk played in a center rotation with Nate Fowler and Bryce Golden, so he only played about half of the minutes. But he had a stellar sophomore campaign.
Out of high school, Chris Holtmann recruited him to Butler. Holtmann left before Brunk's redshirt freshman year. At the collegiate level, it is usually difficult to play for a coach that didn't recruit you.
Once Brunk decided to leave Butler, Indiana and Ohio State were two likely landing spots. The Buckeyes decided to take high school center Ibrahima Diallo over the weekend. Subsequently, Brunk committed to Indiana today.
Brunk is a graduate transfer with two seasons left to play. That means he doesn't have to sit out as a normal transfer. He is immediately added to Indiana's frontcourt rotation with De'Ron Davis, Trayce Jackson-Davis, and Race Thompson.
