The top-ranked 2020 prospect by Indiana Basketball Source, Mishawaka Marian guard Jaden Ivey committed to Purdue.
Purdue was the first school to offer Ivey a scholarship after he attended Purdue's prospect camp in August. Butler and Notre Dame followed suit with offers after that. Notre Dame was presumed to be a favorite for Ivey since his mother, Niele Ivey, is an assistant coach with the Notre Dame women's team. His father also attended Notre Dame. Jaden always said that attending Notre Dame was not a given. That turned out to be true.
In terms of his game, Ivey took a major step as a sophomore then built on that with the Indy Heat last travel season. That put him in a position to be offered by Purdue at the camp in the fall. His athleticism has continued to progress as he has gotten bigger and stronger. He has always been a top-tier spot-up shooter. In the last year, he has improved as a playmaker for himself and teammates.
Purdue recruited Ivey harder than any school. He took an official visit to West Lafayette last fall after receiving the offer. The Boilermakers watched Ivey more than the hometown Notre Dame. It paid off by securing a commitment from the 2020 guard.
Ivey should fit well into the Purdue style. He can play on or off the ball with his shooting and ball-handling abilities. He's also an excellent passer in the half court set. It is easy to envision Ivey starting the offense then working off screens away from the ball then hitting shots or finding teammates for layups. On paper, it looks like a fantastic pairing.
