Evansville Bosse and Indy Heat center Kiyron Powell committed to the University of Houston at a press conference on Tuesday.
Following an official visit to Houston, Powell made his college decision. He went to the AAC school over the weekend. Houston is coached by former Indiana Unviersity coach Kelvin Sampson. The Cougars went 33-4 last season.
Prior to his commitment, Powell had scholarship offers from Xavier, Kansas State, Georgetown, Western Kentucky, and many others. Purdue expressed interest throughout the process but never offered the shot-blocking center.
As a prospect, Powell has always been one of the most promsing prospects in the state's class. His defense has been ahead of his offensive game, but Powell has made great strides on the offensive end in the last year. He scores on the block consistently, will pop for a mid-range shot, and shows the potential to add more range. A shot blocker is a key component to any defense, and Powell has a chance to be a good one.
If Kiyron Powell is focused on improving, he will be a major impact player at Houston.
