Greensburg's Andrew Welage has committed to Wright State. The 2020 shooting guard had offers from Vermont and Nevada as well.
Welage is a big guard at six-foot-five. He will bring shooting and offensive awareness to the Raiders. As a junior, Welage averaged 16.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game. His efficiency stands out more than his volume numbers. Last season, he had an 69 eFG%. That is incredible.
Despite being a well-known player since entering high school, Welage didn't receive his first scholarship offer until May. He took an official visit to Vermont in June. Vermont has landed plenty of Indiana players during June official visits, but Welage held off to see more of Wright State.
Also in June, Steve Alford and Nevada offered Welage. The Wolfpack were all but eliminated by early August.
Looking ahead to this high school year, Greensburg will be good once again. Welage and Lane Sparks will be one of the best duos in the state. Sparks is a 2021 guard that brings toughness and scoring ability to the floor each game. Those two will put up huge numbers this season.
Welage will fit into Wright State's system well. Scott Nagy values smart players that will make good decisions with the ball. Welage will also be able to work off the ball to get open looks from beyond the three-point line. He should be a valuable piece for Wright State.
