2020 Hamilton Southeastern center Mabor Majak has committed to Cleveland State.
After an official visit to CSU, Cleveland State became the leader for Majak this fall. The hire of former Florida State assistant coach Dennis Gates is a major draw for Majak. He will be rebuilding a team that went 10-21 last year. Gates was a strong recruiter at Florida State, and he will bring in junior college players to turn things around sooner rather than later. He also helped develop players like Mfiondu Kabengele and Christ Koumadje at Florida State. That played into Majak's decision to play for Gates.
Majak is a big lefty that has developed a consistent right-shoulder move when he has space on the block. He averaged 8.4 points and 5.7 rebounds in 17 minutes per game as a junior at HSE. He also blocked 1.2 shots each game. HSE will need him to have an enough bigger role this year as the Royals had a few players transfer.
Majak has the size that can't be taught. He has also shown flashes on both ends of the floor. It will be a matter of developing consistency, refining his fundamentals, and improving his awareness while adjusting to a higher level of play. That could take some time at Cleveland State, but Gates has experience with players like Majak.
