2021 Brownsburg wing Pierce Thomas verbally committed to Butler while on an official visit to the school today.
Last month, Indiana Basketball Source spoke to Thomas about his recruitment, and he made it clear that he wanted to commit sooner rather than later.
“I'd like to commit earlier than others, but I'm not sure when yet,” said Thomas in January.
Thursday, he made good on that statement. Butler and Cincinnati have recruited the Brownsburg prospect the hardest, and it paid off for the Bulldogs. LaVall Jordan and Butler now have two Indianapolis-area players committed in the 2021 class – Jayden Taylor and Thomas.
Thomas is an elite athlete that has made strides with his basketball games. His shooting mechanics and footwork have improved this season. He’s shooting 35 percent from deep as a junior. Overall, he’s averaging 14.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. Since he is a dynamic open court athlete, fans and coaches want more out of Thomas, but he has made solid progress this season. If that continues, he’ll be a major contributor at Butler.
At this point, it’s easy to project Thomas as a three-point shooter, perimeter defender, and transition finisher. His shooting has made incremental improvement in each of his three high school seasons. With his size at a solid six-foot-five, he has the length and quickness to be a great defender. His defense will be aided by the college weight room as well. And in transition, there are few better in high school than Thomas at finishing above the rim.
Butler fans can see Thomas in sectional play against Avon on Tuesday night. Brownsburg is one of the top teams in the state, but Avon should give the Bulldogs a good game.
